Manchester United v Liverpool

Manchester United Football Club is an English professional football club, based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, that plays in the Premier League. Founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, the club changed its name to Manchester United in 1902 and moved to Old Trafford in 1910. In 1968, under the management of Matt Busby, Manchester United was the first English football club to win the European Cup, ten years after the Munich air disaster that claimed the lives of eight players. The current manager, Alex Ferguson, is the most successful manager in the club's history, having won 26 major honours since he took over in November 1986. Having won 18 league titles, four League Cups and a record 11 FA Cups,Manchester United is one of the most successful clubs in the history of English football. The club has also won three European Cups and is unique in having won a Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League Treble, in the 1998–99 season.

By Bus: GMPTE operate a frequent service direct to Old Trafford Manchester
stadium on a match and non match day. It is advisable to telephone
0871 200 2233 or visit their website www.gmpte.com for travel and bus times.
 
By Rail: On a match day only, Northern Rail operate a service from the City
Centre Stations direct to Old Trafford Stadium where the station is located
alongside the South Stand. Due to the varied kick off times, it is advisable to
telephone National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50 for train times.
 
By Metro: The Metrolink service operates a frequent service from the City
Centre (including Victoria & Piccadilly Stations) to Old Trafford Station
(Altrincham line) or Exchange Quay (Eccles line) both of which are within
a 5 minute walk of the football ground. Metrolink enquiries: 0161 205 2000.

From the North: Leave the M60 at junction 12 M602
(Salford/Manchester). At the end of the M602 (Junction3) follow
the signs for Salford Quays & Trafford Park. At the roundabout
turn right onto Trafford Road (A5063). At the bridge over the
Manchester Ship Canal, keep in the right hand lane, turn right
and follow the road round to Trafford Wharf Road, then left at
the traffic lights onto Waters Reach. Continue through the traffic
lights onto Sir Matt Busby Way.
From the South: Leave the M6 at Junction 19 and take the
A556 in the direction of Manchester Airport. Continue onto the
M56 to Manchester, passing the Airport, and follow the signs to
the M60 (Leeds/Liverpool). Leave the M60 at Junction 7 (A56
Chester Road) and follow the signs for Manchester United onto
Sir Matt Busby Way.
PLEASE NOTE: From 90 minutes prior to kick off, access to
Sir Matt Busby Way from Chester Road is closed due to police
instructions. Those with car park permits will be directed around
the traffic system to the opposite end of Sir Matt Busby Way for
access. Access to Sir Matt Busby Way will only be given to those
customers with car park permits.
